Around the Campfire @ The Old School Music House #7

I’m out:

The glow of Vegas is growing before me. It dimly lights the dark horizon as I traverse the “old stagecoach road” back to town.

As the road passes by I find myself lost within the thoughts of many questions new to my plate of curiosity. They begin with "why" ...and a couple of “are we” thrown in.

Why do you the reader only want tid-bits …snack-able information? (Less than 300 words)

Why are 3-minute instructional videos on YouTube the preferred method for learning Audio Engineering?

Why are the Audio Engineering Schools producing so many Classical analytical thought process audio engineers? (What is happening to the Romantics of our society?)

Why is there a rise in dislike for all things digital in musical production? (Are we even using DAW’s correctly; how and where are we making our value judgments?)

Why are we intellectualizing “The Vibe”? (Just Do It …Let it happen)

Why are we losing our bullshit abilities? (Face-to-face interpersonal connection skills)

Are we becoming an audio society of replicators waning from a desire to be innovative, to be unique?  (Do the new to our industry understand “The Rabbit Hole”?)

Are we so wrapped up in our lives and equipment that we have lost touch with “The Show”?

If my trip to Richards Ranch brought me anything it’s peace and understanding.

In this fast-paced world I now remember the long slow road we’ve walked together in mastering our craft. We have shared our journey thus far and my hope is our vibe from The Old School Music House will continue to grow.

 Hang: With the push of a button or the swiping of a finger across a screen ...poof, an audience is entertained. Instantly they are rewarded with the content of their choosing. Seldom if ever does the audience member consider the structural events that have taken place to present their chosen content to them. Be it news, movies or music, the technical aspect of providing media content to a broad market is managed by people. People with feelings and ambitions, not necessarily congruent with one another, work together to deliver the content. Emotion generally weighs heavily over pragmatism when it comes to entertainment. That formula holds true for any human involved with the production of media. The percentages of emotion-over-pragmatism vary with the people involved in its production. We usually speak of the things we love weighted towards its positive aspect, the ones that attract us. The recording studio business has a lot of positive aspects. Recording Studios are usually dimly lit, vibe filled, creative environments open to social practices you’d never see in any business catering to the general public. Here is my last blog for you who have followed me (Thank you by the way). In analog you have positive and negative energy pulses. In digital you have ones and zeros.
